Let the table give the room breathing space.

A restrained table profile leaves room for the surrounding textures to do the talking. Think of it as a useful pause between upholstered forms.

Consider how a table looks from the sofa, and how easily people can move around it. Sketch its footprint on your floor before committing to a size.

Balance a light tabletop with warmer accents. Keep everyday surfaces useful: a small tray, a book, or a single vessel is often enough.
